The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC)

The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) is a mandatory cap and trade system for carbon emissions which will cover emissions from all energy sources from large commercial and public sector organisations. This scheme, which excludes emissions covered by other emissions trading schemes (UK ETS, EU ETS, CCA), is due to be implemented from April 2010.

At the start of each year, organisations affected are required to purchase allowances of carbon which they expect to emit over the following year. At the end of each year, organisations will be placed in a CRC league table. Those with poor environmental performance are penalised, whilst those with good performance are rewarded

Carbon Reduction Commitment management and support services offered by Eco-Rich Ltd include the following:

  • Development and implementation of monitoring and reporting procedures to ensure compliance with the scheme rules

Revenue raised from the CRC will be used to support the public finances, rather than recycled to participants.
